"Nestled in one residential area, not too far from the castle, I come across my first Martello Tower - number sixty. Strangely, this eighteenth century stronghold doesn’t look that out of place amongst the flats and semis either side. The gravel driveway is big enough for several cars and a bunch of different bins to sort waste whilst the circular glass rooms at the top look very modern. It’s been converted into a family home and sits by Rosetti Rd. a misspelt homage to the Victorian Pre-Raphaelite poet-painter. I don’t know if Rossetti visited Pevensey but his contemporary, the painter Val Prinsep lived here for a while. The next road along, Val Prinseps Rd, is misnamed after him. These misspelt road names make me laugh, it seems in keeping with how the British got the name Martello Towers slightly wrong."
